The MBC Medal is a prestigious award celebrating past students who shine across academics, sport, the arts, and beyond. Each recipient reflects the values and enduring legacy of the MBC community.
In this special 125th year of Moreton Bay College, it is a privilege to honour Dr. Melissa Manahan – an outstanding alumna whose life and career embody the College’s Five Founding Seeds: faith, excellence, integrity, compassion, and service.
Dr. Manahan’s journey began at Moreton Bay College in 1997, in 2001 she graduated as Dux with an OP 1 and multiple academic subject awards. Her commitment to excellence continued at the University of Queensland, where she achieved a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with First Class Honours and was awarded the prestigious University Medal. Across both her Pharmacy and Medicine studies, she received numerous academic prizes, reflecting exceptional intellectual rigour and a sustained pursuit of excellence.
Now a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, Dr. Manahan is a respected Consultant Dermatologist, practising privately and serving as a Visiting Medical Officer at Princess Alexandra Hospital. Her clinical work is complemented by a strong contribution to research, with publications in leading medical journals, and a particular focus on teledermatology, dermatology education, and maternal and community health. Her work continues to expand access to care and improve health outcomes for diverse communities.
Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Manahan exemplifies a deep commitment to Christian faith and service. She is a passionate educator and advocate for community health, regularly volunteering her time to deliver health education to school students – including a recent return to Moreton Bay College – as well as to senior citizens and professional groups. Through these contributions, she empowers individuals with knowledge to support lifelong wellbeing.
Dr. Manahan’s leadership is evident in her service as Honorary Secretary to the Queensland Faculty of Dermatologists and her role as a mentor and educator through Dermatology Australasia. She is a sought-after presenter at national conferences and a generous contributor to the ongoing education of general practitioners and pharmacists.
As Moreton Bay College celebrates 125 years of shaping remarkable women, Dr. Melissa Manahan stands as a shining example of the enduring values of the College. Her life reflects not only exceptional personal achievement, but a genuine commitment to uplifting others and contributing meaningfully to society.
