The opening of the Winchester Heritage Centre has added a special new chapter to Moreton Bay College’s 125-year story, creating a dedicated space where the people, places and memories that have shaped our College can be preserved and shared for generations to come.
Among the first visitors were our Old Girls, many of whom returned to the College for Founders’ Day and stepped into the Heritage Centre to revisit a part of their own history. Surrounded by photographs, memorabilia, stories and artefacts from across the College’s past, Old Girls shared memories of their school days, reconnecting with places, people and experiences that had remained with them long after leaving MBC.
For some, the visit brought back familiar faces and moments from their time at the College. For others, it was an opportunity to see how Moreton Bay College has evolved while recognising the traditions and values that remain at its heart. Their stories brought the history within the centre to life, creating a wonderful connection between the generations of Bay Girls who have called MBC home.
The Winchester Heritage Centre provides a permanent space for these stories to be collected and celebrated. It brings together pieces of the College’s history that might otherwise be scattered across archives, personal collections and family memories, making them accessible to current students, Old Girls, families and visitors.
For today’s Bay Girls, the centre offers a tangible connection to those who came before them. It provides an opportunity to discover what life was like for earlier generations of students and to understand how their experiences have contributed to the College they are part of today.
The presence of Old Girls during Founders’ Day was a fitting reminder that Moreton Bay College’s history is not simply something preserved in photographs or artefacts. It lives in the memories and stories of the women who have passed through its doors.
