After graduating from MBC, Isla McPate pursued her passion for dance through the inaugural year of the Australasian Dance Collective’s Pre‑Professional Program. This experience supported the development of both her technical training and artistic voice, culminating in the completion of an Advanced Diploma of Professional Dance.
Isla is currently based in Tokyo, Japan, where she is performing under an international contract in a highly disciplined professional performance environment. This opportunity has provided valuable experience working as a professional performer on an international stage. Alongside her dance career, Isla is also undertaking a Bachelor of Laws at Queensland University of Technology, demonstrating a strong commitment to continuing her academic pathway while living abroad.
Her interests lie in both contemporary dance and international law, particularly in exploring how complex or controversial issues can be interpreted and expressed through art. This interest was first developed in her choreographic work Ripe, created during her training with the Australasian Dance Collective. Navigating the dual pathways of professional performing and legal studies has been one of Isla’s greatest challenges, requiring a high level of discipline, balance, and resilience, as well as the ability to manage strong personal expectations.
Isla is driven by a desire for continuous learning and personal growth and is committed to building confidence in pursuing opportunities that align with her goals. She hopes to inspire others to step beyond their comfort zones and remains deeply grateful for the supportive environment at MBC and the mentors who have guided and encouraged her throughout her journey.
