The MBC Camp programme helps guide our girls through critical stages of their growth and development and focuses on the skills that assist students to strengthen their relationships; build positive emotions; enhance personal resilience; promote mindfulness, and; live a healthy lifestyle.
Through carefully chosen activities, the Primary School’s camp programme provides girls with further opportunities to develop the College values; Care, Teamwork, Character and Engagement.
Over the Primary years, beginning with a day camp in Year 3, carefully sequenced camp activities allow the girls to develop resilience and courage and a willingness to try new things. The overnight camps, which begin in Year 4, develop a level of independence and self-reliance while the girls are away from their parents.
Year 7 Camp has a focus on relationships and building connections to allow our newest members of the Secondary College to feel valued and confirm that they have a place in the Secondary family. A variety of physical and social activities challenge the girls, developing skills to help them build social capital among their peers.
The Year 9 Camp recognises that at this developmental stage young women are faced with many physical and emotional challenges. It endeavours to build their capacity in the physical, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of their wellbeing. The Camp offers a diverse range of challenges in each of the above areas and is part differentiated physical experience, and part reflective and intellectual experience. The retreat develops an understanding of the brain and has a focus on building academic resilience through learning about growth mindset theory.
Less camp, more Leadership Conference - facilitated by Peer Power. The College has worked Peer Power for eight years, and together we have developed a challenging programme. The Leadership Retreat gives our Seniors the tools to understand their own strengths and talents and teaches them how they can bring these to the shared experience of leading the Secondary College. Together the Seniors develop a College legacy, explore leadership styles and begin House project planning. Alongside this focus, holistic strategies for managing the pressures of the Senior year are explored through mindfulness and yoga.
