Moreton Bay College is delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs Jo Matherson as the new Principal.

Mrs Matherson brings a wealth of experience and a distinguished career in education, having demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to academic excellence, student well-being, and community engagement.

Mrs Matherson's educational background is impressive, holding a Master of Education (eLearning) from the University of New England (2021), a Graduate Diploma in Education from the same institution (1994), and a Bachelor of Science (1993). Her professional journey has seen her excel in various roles, including Deputy Principal at Somerville House since 2020, where she also served as Interim Head of Boarding in Term 1, 2023.

Mrs Matherson has held several significant positions in her career, including:

  •  Various roles at The Glennie School (2016-2019) including Deputy Principal, Acting Principal and Head of Middle School.
  • 9 years at PLC Armidale (2006-2015) in various roles including Acting Head of School and Head of Senior School; Head of Science & PDHPE and Gifted and Talented Coordinator.
  • Starting her teaching career at Uralla Central School (1995-2004) as a Science and Maths Teacher and Environmental Education Coordinator.

Mrs Matherson's leadership is characterised by her ability to build high-performing teams, foster a culture of trust, and support academic success through innovative and learner-centred approaches. Her strategic vision has led to the candidate stage for the introduction of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program and the Diploma Program at Somerville House as well as significant improvements in academic and pastoral programs.

Mrs Matherson is also deeply committed to wellbeing and continuous professional growth. She has designed and implemented middle leadership strategies, professional learning programs, and various initiatives to enhance school culture and academic outcomes.

We are confident that Mrs Matherson’s extensive experience, innovative thinking, and passion for education will greatly benefit Moreton Bay College. We look forward to her leadership and the positive impact she will have on our community.
